Thinking Beyond “Projects”

Many organizations work through proposing projects to funders, and then carrying out those projects. However, often times the structures that come with that funding model make doing community-based work harder. In this video, Mohamad from Bayt Byout talks about the challenges they face because of the way the mindset of project-based NGOs has affected civic participation in Palestine.

Sometimes, an organization will choose to participate in a funding stream that is project-based, and that has specific reporting requirements, because it allows them to do the work they want to do. However, they may then choose to follow an alternative structure. In this video, Khaled from Grassroots Jerusalem describes when they chose to seek external funding that was project based, and when they switched to a different funding model.
